Toward what future?

During the apparitions, the visionaries have received progressively secrets concerning the future of salvation and the threats facing the world today. Mirjana has received, first, the tenth and last secret in the Christmas of 1982, with this warning:
- You won't see me again, except on your birthday and in serious circumstances that will require it. Go back to the faith, like everyone else.
For her it was very hard:
- I thought of plunging into depression - she said in Sarajevo March 24, 1984.
Instead, she adapted quickly that night in prayer. Her life was difficult. Controlled by the police, regarded with suspicion in the school, immersed in the secular world, often atheistic of Sarajevo, which meant also family difficulties. For nearly two years she lost contact with Medjugorje, where she feared to go adrift. But she persevered in prayer, with the discretion requested by her new situation.

From August 2^nd 1987, almost every month, she has new visions or phrases (internal words) to prepare the public revelation of the ten secrets, marking the end of the apparitions. She has already chosen the priest that must disclose them: Father Peter Ljubicic, the youngest of the three Franciscan priests of the parish.

On May 6^th 1985, Ivanka, Mirjana's only company of the very first apparition on June 24, 1981, in turn, received the tenth secret, with promises of annual apparition, not for her birthday, as Mirjana, but on the anniversary of the first apparition, which is June 25 (because on the 24 She was only making contact at a distance, and the group of six had not yet established). On June 25 1986, Ivanka prepared the long promised apparition, in prayer and without anxiety. This was in her house, at the usual time. After fourteen months of absence, she saw Our Lady for fourteen minutes. Our Lady prayed twice with her, reciting the Lord's Prayer and the Gloria. The interview with Our Lady ended the long wait for her engagement with Branco. It was certainly after submitting her free choice to Mary that she married him on the following January 6.

What will happen next?

Two years have gone by since Mirjana has been preparing the revelation that she states next. The revelation of the secrets, but it has not begun. Why? Mirjana replied:
- It 'an extension of mercy.

In other words, prayer and fasting have compensated or slowed down the self-destruction that the sin of the world is preparing, because most of the secrets relate to these looming threats that only God can return to moderate. Visionaries jealously guard these secrets, but reveal the overall meaning (depending on the double meaning of the term, meaning and direction to take).

• Ten days before the completion of every secret, Mirjana will notify father Peter, entrusted to reveal them.
• He must fast for seven days and will have the task of revealing them three days prior to their implementation. He's referee of his mission and could keep them for himself, as John XXIII did for the secret of Fatima (the disclosure was authorized for 1960. Father Peter is determined to reveal them).

The first three secrets are three warnings given to the world as a last chance to convert.

The third secret (which is also the third warning) will be a visible sign up on the hill of the apparitions to convert those who do not believe yet.

The revelation of last seven secrets will follow. More serious, especially the last four. Vicka cried getting the ninth, Mirjana getting the tenth. The seventh, however, was softened by the fervor of the prayers and fasting.

They are perspectives that are puzzling, because the secrets, always fascinating, usually lose their prestige when they are revealed, as happened in Fatima; also the predictions about the future are subject to optical illusion. The early Christians believed in the imminent end of the world, the Apostle Paul himself thought of seeing it before his death (l Tim 4,13-17; Heb 10,25.35, Rev 22:20). The advances of hope and the prophecies had climbed over the events. Will there be disappointment at the revelation of the ten secrets? Their delay is not perhaps a bad omen? Questions that arise. Prudence and vigilance recommended by the Church are therefore needed in this respect. Faith is certain, personally guaranteed by God. Gifts are fallible because they are the gift of God in human frailty.

I have no doubt about the authenticity of the grace received by the visionaries in Medjugorje, the parish and some thousands of pilgrims who have converted deeply. This does not guarantee the details of the predictions and warnings, infact the visionaries have already been wrong in some circumstances, as indeed has happened to some saints, even canonized. We could therefore be mistaken if we focused on these secrets and on the announced sign, rather than rely on the grace that is spread with a consistency and a greater depth, so far (...).

Towards the era of peace: the time of spring

Like the visionaries keep repeating every time, Our Lady did not come to Medjugorje to frighten, but to help us. She has never talked about the end of the world. She has promised, if we accept the King of Peace, which "this century is a time of peace and prosperity": She doesn't speak thus of a distant future, but of nowadays.

The sooner and the more people will convert, the sooner the long-promised era of peace will come. The period of testing, the time of the secrets when Satan will be defeated and the humanity will back to God, will be less painful and less tiring in the same measure as we men fully accept the message of conversion and prayer.

Visionaries repeat "Have no fear, who feels Mary as Mother and God as Father has nothing to fear".
